Longtime Heart Surgeon Returns to Oklahoma City
OKLAHOMA CITY (April 25, 2017) – INTEGRIS Cardiovascular Physicians welcomes David Vanhooser, M.D., FACS, back to Oklahoma City.
Vanhooser, a cardiothoracic surgeon, left the metro in 2001 to start the open-heart surgery program at INTEGRIS Bass Baptist Health Center in Enid. After 16 years with the INTEGRIS Heart and Vascular Institute of Northwest Oklahoma, he felt compelled to return to his roots and to his original passion.
“I’ve been involved with INTEGRIS since 1985 when I was able to assist Dr. Nazih Zuhdi with Oklahoma’s first heart transplant,” says Vanhooser. “Oklahoma City, right now, has an urgent demand for more experienced transplant surgeons and transplant was my first love, so I’m returning back to where it all started for me.”
Vanhooser’s new office is located on the INTEGRIS Baptist Medical Center campus in Oklahoma City at 3433 NW 56th Street, Building B, Suite 760.
In addition to transplantation and implanting mechanical circulatory support devices, Vanhooser will also continue to perform complex coronary artery surgery, valve repair and replacements, thoracic and robotic lung surgery, as well as vascular and endovascular surgery.
All of these surgeries will take place at INTEGRIS Baptist, but he will travel to his Enid clinic at 707 S. Monroe on a regular basis to see both established and new patients in that region.
This sort of rotation is not new. The INTEGRIS Heart and Vascular Institute of Northwest Oklahoma has partnered with INTEGRIS Heart Hospital physicians for many years. Sean Halleran, M.D., a cardiac electrophysiologist, and Douglas Horstmanshof, M.D., program director of the INTEGRIS Heart Failure Institute, also travel to Enid to see patients there.
The collaboration between INTEGRIS Heart and Vascular Institute of Northwest Oklahoma, Dr. Vanhooser and the INTEGRIS Heart Hospital at INTEGRIS Baptist Medical Center opens up an access point for residents of northwest Oklahoma to obtain the most advanced cardiac care possible, a rare opportunity for rural Oklahomans. Vanhooser’s new office number in Oklahoma City is 405-951-4345.
