Friday, November 08, 2013 - Several INTEGRIS Hospitals Receive VHA Awards for Outstanding Performance

OKLAHOMA CITY – INTEGRIS Health recently received numerous awards for outstanding clinical performance from the VHA Oklahoma/Arkansas regional office. Participating hospitals were graded on four areas: clinical performance, patient experience, patient safety and emergency department performance. Data was tracked from 2011 through 2012, and compared with baseline measurements during a similar period the previous year.

CLINICAL PERFORMANCE
Clinical performance awards were given to hospitals that demonstrate outstanding performance related to the treatment of heart attacks, heart failure, pneumonia, and prevention of surgical site infections.
  • Clinical Improvement Awards were given when performance during the measurement period demonstrated a 50% reduction in the gap measured during a baseline period. The “gap” represents the difference between baseline performance and perfect performance. One INTEGRIS hospital earned this honor.

PATIENT EXPERIENCE
Patient experience during hospitalization is measured by HCAHPS (Hospital Consumer Assessment of Health Providers and Systems) scores, based on post-hospitalization patient surveys.
  • HCAHPS High Performance Awards recognized hospitals that have a composite score in the Top Quartile (25%) of all U.S. hospitals. One INTEGRIS hospital took home this prize.

PATIENT SAFETY
Patient safety awards focused on three different infections that can be acquired during hospitalization. The awards for patient safety recognized hospitals that have either significantly reduced or eliminated infections in patients requiring artificial ventilation, received treatment through central line catheters, or in patients with indwelling urinary catheters during their hospital stay. These awards are based on hospital performance during the full twelve months of 2012.
  • Patient Safety Clinical Excellence Awards were handed out for complete elimination or extremely low rates of infection. Four INTEGRIS hospitals received this award.
