Dear Colleagues,

As you should know by now, INTEGRIS Health Partners had a very successful 2013. We were able to deliver health care to INTEGRIS employees in an efficient, safe and cost effective way resulting in a 14 percent cost reduction. There was a significant difference in cost between INTEGRIS Health Partners managed covered lives and those not under our management. This result is even more impressive in light of a national trend of a 4-6 percent increase in cost of health care. We were able to achieve significant savings in pharmacy and medical spending; however, only about 20 percent of INTEGRIS Health Partners physicians participated in the 2013 metrics and were eligible for the shared savings. Those who participated fully received more than $3,900 vs. a maximum of $400 last year. INTEGRIS Health Partners as a whole should be proud of what we accomplished. Our results in 2013 demonstrate that the system works and clinical integration and collaboration can bend the cost curve if not break it!

Several insurers have noted our results and have reached out to INTEGRIS Health Partners to learn more about how we did it and explore partnerships with us. We are actively pursuing these potential relationships and there will be more to follow. Initial conversations have been extremely positive.

Our 2014 metrics represent a shift to a more clinical focus and rely less on operational issues. This is consistent with our overall plan. The metrics are published in this newsletter. Please review them and see where you can focus on the last quarter of the year. We will need everyone work together to achieve our 2014 goals.

Communication still seems to be our biggest challenge. This newsletter, our monthly ONE MAIL distributed by e-mail the Friday after the monthly board meeting, and continued office calls from our provider relations consultants comprise our current strategy to keep you informed. All of this information also appears on our website, www.integrisok.com/ihp.

We achieved an impressive result in 2013 and we must strive to continue our progress. Please feel free to contact me any time if you have any questions or comments.

Sincerely,

Carl Raczkowski, M.D.
President, INTEGRIS Health Partners

New Provider Relations Consultant

Please welcome our new INTEGRIS Health Partners provider relations consultant, Kari Govier-Brown, M.H.A.

She earned a Bachelor of Science degree in communication and disorders as well as a Master of Health Administration from the University of Oklahoma. She comes to us with 11 years of experience as a contracting and network representative at Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Oklahoma. Prior to that, she worked as the admitting director at St. Michael Hospital in Oklahoma City.

In her spare time, Kari likes to travel with her family, particularly to out-of-town sporting events for her children’s competitive soccer, swimming and cross-country events. A Wisconsin transplant, she loves the Green Bay Packers and also cheers for the Oklahoma City Thunder. Kari says, “I am excited to join the INTEGRIS Health Partners team and look forward to contributing to the organization’s future success.”

Kari will soon begin calling on INTEGRIS Health Partners physicians in south Oklahoma City, Norman, Moore, Mustang, Yukon and Midwest City. You may reach her at 405-312-7605 or kari.govier-brown@integrisok.com.

P&T Committee Recommendations

Nexium - If a patient is on Nexium, switching them to omeprazole 20mg twice daily is recommended. It is also recommended that they take the omeprazole on an empty stomach then eat approximately 30 minutes later.

Lyrica - The task force recommends the following interchange - gabapentin instead of Lyrica. Not all patients will find gabapentin to be equally efficacious or tolerable, but many will. Gabapentin is not a controlled drug – Lyrica is. The dosage range is quite wide, from 100 mg twice daily to 1200 mg three times daily. At higher dosages, doubling the dose does not double the effect.

Oxycontin - The task force recommends the following interchange - morphine sulfate ER instead of Oxycontin. Due to the significant cost differences between capsules and tablets, the task force strongly encourages interchanges for Oxycontin to be made with the morphine tablet. As a general rule, 30 mg of morphine sulfate is equivalent to 20 mg oxycodone in analgesic potency.
