Working together for your health
Emergency rooms are designed for true emergencies, yet they are often filled to capacity by patients with non-emergent needs, including those suffering from the common cold, the flu or a minor injury.
Many of these patients resort to the emergency room because:
- They do not have a primary care physician
- Their physician does not have immediate appointments available
- Their injury or illness occurred outside of normal business hours
These issues lead to long waits in the ER and can be frustrating for everyone involved.
That is why INTEGRIS Health and Access Medical Centers have formed an alliance to better serve the people of central Oklahoma. As preferred affiliates, the two entities will work in tandem to provide patients the most complete continuum of care possible in the marketplace, from urgent care to highly specialized services.
“While we still maintain the importance of developing an on-going relationship with a primary care physician for optimum health, we do recognize the need and convenience of a quality urgent care facility,” says Bruce Lawrence, the president and chief executive officer of INTEGRIS Health. “Instead of duplicating services in a well-served market, we selected to partner with an already established company with proven urgent care expertise.”
Since INTEGRIS and Access cover similar geographic areas, the affiliation benefits both organizations in that it is complementary and not competitive in nature.
“We believe this relationship will help us better serve the needs of patients in the community, many of whom currently use INTEGRIS facilities. It will allow us direct access to an entire network of INTEGRIS physicians and specialists should we come across a patient in any of our clinics who we determine needs long-term or more advanced care,” explains John Julian, the chief executive officer of NextCare Urgent Care, the national company that owns Access Medical Centers.
INTEGRIS Health is Oklahoma’s largest health care provider with 30 primary care and specialty clinics within INTEGRIS Medical Group and approximately 886 primary care physicians and specialists serving the metropolitan area as part of the INTEGRIS Health Partners Network.
Access Medical Centers currently has a total of nine locations in Oklahoma. The clinics included in the affiliation are located in Edmond, Oklahoma City, Midwest City, Newcastle, Norman and Yukon. Each clinic is open from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. every day of the week, and most major holidays.
