Did You Know … INTEGRIS Community Wellness and Diversity
African American men suffer from more negative health indicators than any other racial group in the United States. Reasons for these health disparities include a lack of affordable health services, poor health education, cultural barriers, poverty, employment that does not carry health insurance, and insufficient medical and social services catering to African American men. According to the National Center for Health Statistics, African American men live 7.1 years less than men in other racial groups and are more likely to get and die from a number of treatable diseases including prostate cancer and cardiovascular disease.

In an effort to make positive changes in the health of our community in Oklahoma, INTEGRIS Men’s Health University, in partnership with the East Zion Men’s Association, developed the African American Men’s Health Summit in 2010.

Now in its third year, the African American Men’s Health Summit has served more than 800 men at the free event, which features prostate, skin and oral cancer screenings, cholesterol and glucose checks, stroke assessments, physician lectures, and health and wellness information. This year’s event will be held Saturday, June 23, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., Langston University, Oklahoma City campus, located at 4205 N. Lincoln Blvd.
