Too Young to Stroke? Think Again!

Did you know that one in five strokes will affect a person age 20-55? And that stroke affects women more than men?
Join Mary Pinzon, RN, to learn about risk factors and strategies to prevent stroke, applicable to any age or gender. This life-saving discussion will take place at 10 a.m. at the INTEGRIS Third Age Life Center, 5100 N. Brookline, Suite 100.

Mind/Body Essentials Yoga for Kids and Mandala Art

Children ages 7 to 12 can learn to manage stress and experience creative growth through classes offered by the INTEGRIS James L. Hall Jr. Center for Mind, Body and Spirit. Yoga for Kids will teach children to pay attention to stress in their bodies and learn to calm themselves down when they are angry or frustrated, before a test at school and even help them go to sleep at night. Sand Mandalas teach kids self-expression through the calming experience of creating art with sand, allowing children to be present and in the moment. Classes will be held from 4 to 6 p.m., Tuesdays and Thursdays, July 7 through July 30, at 3366 NW Expressway, Suite 100, Building D, on the Baptist Campus. Cost is $35 for all eight sessions. Living in Oklahoma in July and August can get pretty steamy, especially if you’re outdoors. How do you stay hydrated in all the heat and humidity?

Join Karen Massey, RD, LD, as she discusses some easy tips for recognizing the signs and symptoms of dehydration as well as how to avoid getting dehydrated in the first place.

Better Breathers Club: Lung Disorders Support Group

Are you ready to breathe easier? If you have been diagnosed with a lung disorder such as COPD, asthma, bronchitis, emphysema or cystic fibrosis, you could benefit from the Better Breathers Club at INTEGRIS Health Edmond.

Better Breathers offers you the opportunity to learn to cope with lung disorders and their symptoms while receiving the support of others who share in your struggles. Each session features educational presentations on a wide range of topics.

Solving the Problems of Erectile Dysfunction and Male Incontinence

A fall can happen in a split second, but it may take a lot of time, pain and rehabilitation to recover. In fact, falls are the leading cause of injury-related deaths among individuals older than age 65.
Join Melanie Thorne, RN, INTEGRIS Jim Thorpe Rehabilitation Services, as she discusses risk factors for falling, prevention of falls and what to do if a fall occurs. Following the interactive discussion, optional individual falls risk assessments will be offered.

Surgical Weight Loss Seminar

Since 2006, the INTEGRIS Weight Loss Center has performed hundreds of primary surgical weight loss procedures, exceeding the national average in all weight loss categories. The center is designated as an accredited center of excellence facility by the Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery Accreditation and Quality Improvement Program.

Join Hamilton S. Le, M.D., medical director of the INTEGRIS Weight Loss Center, for a free informational seminar. All surgical weight loss procedures are carefully reviewed and explained and attendees are given the opportunity to have questions asked and answered.

The free presentation will be held at 5:30 p.m. in the James L. Henry Auditorium at INTEGRIS Baptist Medical Center, 3300 NW Expressway.

Psychology Supporting Positive Outcomes
Caregiver Support Group

This support group is offered only for caregivers of patients with any chronic medical condition. Caregivers will be able to connect with others, express their feelings, and gain insights from those going through similar challenges.

Contact respite care, private duty caregivers, or a trusted friend/family member to provide care for your loved one so that you may join us.

Classes are facilitated by Allie Weaver, CRC, and Mary Ryan, M.S.W., and are held the third Thursday of every month at 6 p.m. in the Jones Education Room, INTEGRIS Jim Thorpe Rehabilitation, 4219 S. Western Ave.

Cataracts are one of the leading causes of changes in vision among seniors. Cloudy or blurry vision, progressive nearsightedness, problems with glare and driving at night are some of the symptoms of the formation of cataracts.

Mind Body Essentials
Chair Yoga

Enjoy learning the many benefits of chair yoga: better balance, increased flexibility, stronger muscles, deep breathing, along with a sense of well-being and peacefulness. Chair yoga is a combination of seated and standing postures done with the support of a chair and is available for all levels of physical activity.

This session will include yoga postures for the body, breathing exercises and relaxation techniques.
Join the INTEGRIS James L. Hall Jr. Center for Mind, Body and Spirit in welcoming Tisha Tate, certified yoga instructor, as she shares the benefits and art of chair yoga. The presentation will be held at 6 p.m. in Conference Rooms J, K and L at INTEGRIS Baptist Medical Center.
