Complete Ankle-Brachial Index or ABI Workup

Complete Ankle-Brachial Index or ABI WorkupThis is an ultrasound Doppler exam of the arteries of the arms or legs. By using various Doppler probes and blood pressure cuffs on the arms and legs at specific spots, this exam evaluates the flow of blood and helps to determine if any narrowing or stenosis of the vessel is present, and to what degree. This exam is a more thorough exam than the ABI screening exam. A screening ABI can be done to evaluate for suspected peripheral arterial disease by walking a patient on a treadmill until vascular symptoms present themselves, then the complete ABI workup is conducted to document the degree of disease and recovery time.
