The staff at INTEGRIS Hospice in Oklahoma City helps people through grief and bereavement by promoting positive ways to cope with the pain of a loss. Although each individual responds to loss in a unique way, people in grief often feel shock, denial, fear, anger, resentment, hostility, powerlessness, and deep loneliness.
Bereavement support in OKC
When any staff member on the team at INTEGRIS Hospice enters the home of a patient, we are entering a home where loss is already taking place. The loss of schedules, lifestyle, health, dreams, freedoms, and other normal activities naturally cause us pain. Anticipatory grief is a term often used for these feelings, but actually, we are already in the process of grief due these losses.
Grief is not an illness, but the normal process of mourning and reacting to significant changes in one’s life. Bereavement is learning how to live with the change caused by the loss of a significant person.
Our grieving and bereavement care services provide follow-up for the families we have served for at least 13 months, even longer if necessary. In addition, we offer individual grief support, grief recovery groups, and referrals to other community resources. Because we are a non-profit organization, this grief support is free of charge. It is confidential, and offered to anyone in the community who has suffered the loss of a significant person.
