Help is often just a phone call away: 405-717-9821.

Ask a Dietitian

Do you have personal food or nutrition questions you would like to ask a dietitian? Do you wonder how many calories are right for you or if you’re eating too many snacks? Do you need suggestions about how to increase your intake of fruits and vegetables?

The Ask a Dietitian service offers a complimentary consultation with a registered dietitian once a month, by appointment only. Consultation times are listed in the Lifetime of Harmony newsletter each month with the number to call for an appointment.

Note: This community service focuses on general nutrition needs and is not intended to be a substitute for therapeutic diets or medical nutrition therapy.

Hearing Helpers

In September 1998, INTEGRIS Third Age Life Center joined forces with Faye Donalson, a teacher for the deaf and hard of hearing. The Faye Donalson Hearing Helpers Demonstration Room became a reality.

Hearing Helpers is a demonstration room where people can go to learn about devices made to help compensate for a hearing loss. The services are available to anyone with hearing loss, parents of children with hearing loss, relatives or friends seeking information about helpful devices or gift ideas. Students and others interested in hearing loss and assistive devices are welcome. The Hearing Helpers Demonstration Room is staffed with trained volunteers.

The room is open Monday through Friday from 10 a.m. until 3 p.m. and is located in the INTEGRIS Third Age Life Center, 5100 N. Brookline, Ste. 100, Oklahoma City. Additional information is available by calling 405-717-9820.

Memory: Use it or Lose It

Memory loss often occurs with age, but it may raise some questions for the individual and family: What is normal? Can anything be done to delay it? Could it be Alzheimer's? This program addresses these questions and other age-related memory concerns, including the early detection and treatment of dementia such as Alzheimer's disease. Participants receive a checklist of warning signs and other tools to help assess whether you or a loved one needs further evaluation by a physician.

The program is free to the public and is held in various locations int he metro Oklahoma City area. Dates and locations of the programs are listed in the Lifetime of Harmony Newsletter.

Prevent Slips, Trips and Broken Hips

Falls are the leading cause of injury-related deaths among individuals who are over 65 years of age. Steps can be taken to reduce one's risk of falling.

INTEGRIS Third Age Life Center in collaboration with INTEGRIS Jim Thorpe Rehabilitation offers a community program that educates seniors about risk factors for falling, prevention of falling and what to do if a fall occurs. Following a short presentation, individuals may elect to do the "Timed Up and Go Test" which identifies their risk for falling. Participants in the high risk category are advised to review the results with their primary care physician.

This program is free to community groups in the metro Oklahoma City area. Call us to schedule the program at your location.

Rapid Readers Book Discussion Groups

In response to the suggestion of a long-time Third Age Life Center volunteer, the Rapid Readers Book Discussion group was established in the summer of 2001.

The Rapid Readers read one book monthly, selected by the attendees, then meet and discuss the book. The group discusses an array of topics, such as biographies, mysteries, history, romance, fiction, and humor. Rapid Readers make every attempt to read and/or review books that are available in the Oklahoma City Metropolitan Library System.

The readers meet the third Friday of each month at:
INTEGRIS Third Age Life Center
5100 N. Brookline Ave., Ste. 100
11:30 a.m. – 12:30 p.m.
