Meet a few of the INTEGRIS Health emergency medicine residents.
At INTEGRIS Southwest Medical Center, we take seven or eight residents a year. We are a four year ACGME-accredited Emergency Medicine Program. We pride ourselves on stringent academics, outstanding procedural skills, and team work and play rivaled by few if any.
Take a second to "meet" a few of the residents below.

Why I chose ISMC: I chose ISMC because I knew I would receive top-notch training. As a medical student, I was very impressed with both the residents and the attendings with whom I worked, as well as the amount of pathology I saw in my one month rotation. I believe the high volume and high acuity of the ED at Southwest played a large role in the competency levels of the residents at this program when compared to residents at other programs. I found being a part of an unopposed residency program, where the ED residents do all of the procedures and run all of the codes throughout the hospital, was also something unique to ISMC that was attractive to me when looking at places to potentially train. I have no doubt that after four years of training in this program, I will be prepared for any environment or situation I may encounter as an emergency medicine physician.

Why I chose ISMC: I was really impressed with ISMC during my medical student rotation. When considering this program, the residents here seemed to be better, faster, and more confident in their workup and management of sick patients than residents I had seen at any other program I visited. The attendings were well-read and up-to-date on the most recent advances in emergency medicine and I could tell that they held the residents to the same very high standards. In the end, I would definitely choose this program again for all of the above reasons and more.

Why I chose ISMC: When I rotated at ISMC, I was astonished at the level of knowledge and clinical competency of the residents. ISMC is the busiest ER in the state, and with that comes a large volume of patients with high acuity and diverse pathology. Residents are given lots of autonomy from the beginning. Being an unopposed residency, we perform all of the procedures in the ED and many throughout the hospital. There is an emphasis on metrics/flow, which helps promote efficiency and prepares our residents for successful careers outside of residency. Not only did the academic strength of the program impress me, I was also inspired by the camaraderie of the team. They do numerous procedures, getting most of their required procedures for graduation in their first year of residency. They allow 2nd year residents to moonlight giving them a chance to gain experience on their own which allows them to advance their knowledge and learn to manage patients at a higher level. Why I chose ISMC: I worked as an emergency room tech for several years prior to medical school. Where I worked, there are lots of graduates of this program. When I looked at their performance next to the performance of the graduates of other programs I decided that this was a better program. Coincidentally, it is very near to the home I already owned and my entire family which is incredibly convenient. After rotating through the ED twice, as well as spending several months in the hospital on various other medical rotations and getting to work with the attending physicians and residents I knew that it was a good fit.

Why I chose ISMC: The sense of family and feeling that you go to work in the busiest ER in the state but get to do it with great support. Rotating as a student, I got to see other residents jokingly harass the attendings and vice versa. There was always a jovial spirit with the ER crew that intrigued me. We view each other as integral parts of a unified team that are tasked with providing care to a huge volume of indigent patients and we lean on each other in times of stress in order to get through each shift. Someone is always there to have your back and you accordingly reciprocate. You are always challenged to do/see more and it makes you increasingly comfortable with caring for the sickest patients. ISWMC provides an ideal environment to learn, grow and reach your potential as a physician.

Activities/Hobbies: Outdoors, hunting, hiking, shooting, skiing, walking my dog
Home State: Texas
Why I chose ISMC: The senior residents were complete physicians, capable of managing the ED. Tons of procedures. Great RISE exam and board scores. Program not only focuses on education, but also on ED metrics/flow, important to practicing outside of an academic facility.
Medical School: OSU-COM
