Residents

At INTEGRIS Southwest Medical Center, we take seven or eight residents a year. We are a four year ACGME-accredited Emergency Medicine Program. We pride ourselves on stringent academics, outstanding procedural skills, and team work and play rivaled by few if any.

Take a second to "meet" a few of the residents below.

Medical School: KCUMB
Undergrad: William Jewell College
Activities/Hobbies: Hunting, fishing, watching college football, long distance running, BBQing, landscaping
Home State: Missouri
Why I chose ISMC: I rotated and interviewed at a lot of Osteopathic and Allopathic residencies and none compared to what ISMC had to offer. We are given a lot of autonomy from the very beginning of residency. This program is very hands-on. You will do a ton of procedures. We have good didactics and typically score very well on the national inservice exams. I believe this is a great ER program that will make you an awesome physician.

LynchRyan Lynch, D.O.

Medical School: OSU-COM
Undergrad: University of Central Oklahoma
Activities/Hobbies: Wake-boarding, snowboarding, golf, motocross, duck hunting, mountain biking
Home State: Oklahoma
Why I chose ISMC: It is the busiest ER in the state which means high exposure to large patient volumes. The ER has a variety of high acuity patients. I looked at how good the senior residents were and decided that's what I wanted to be in 4 years. The residents appeared to be happy and enjoyed what they were doing.

MagannElizabeth Magann, D.O.

Medical School: Lincoln Memorial University - DeBusk College of Osteopathic Medicine
Undergrad: Oklahoma State University
Activities/Hobbies: Hanging out with family, running
Home State: Oklahoma
Why I chose ISMC: I chose ISMC residency because the training and experience you receive here is unique and superior to other programs. I wanted to be the best ER physician I could be and knew that I would achieve that goal at this residency program. I enjoy working with my co-workers and the strong emphasis on didactics and board study is important for an enjoyable learning atmosphere.

MedvedJoshua Medved, D.O.

Medical School: OSU-CHS
Undergrad: Oklahoma State University
Activities/Hobbies: Bowfishing, wakeboarding, going to the lake, chasing my kids around
Home State: Oklahoma
Why I chose ISMC: I wanted to be trained to work at any emergency department be it a fast-paced, high volume metro area - or a rural setting to where I'm the only doctor available immediately. While applying to ISMC it was completely obvious that the attendings and residents had such credentials. The camaraderie here is second to none. Essentially every shift is challenging. If you have the drive and commitment to become a great physician the setting at ISMC is perfect.

ResingerTheron Risinger, D.O.

Medical School: OSU-COM
Undergrad: Texas A&M
Activities/Hobbies: Outdoors, hunting, hiking, shooting, skiing, walking my dog
Home State: Texas
Why I chose ISMC: The senior residents were complete physicians, capable of managing the ED. Tons of procedures. Great RISE exam and board scores. Program not only focuses on education, but also on ED metrics/flow, important to practicing outside of an academic facility.

WarnockKristen Warnock, D.O.

BarreoAlexander Barrero, D.O.

Medical School: Virginia College of Osteopathic Medicine
Undergrad: Oral Roberts University
Activities/Hobbies: Running, scuba diving, hanging out

Why I chose ISMC: ISMC is preparing me to be the best emergency physician, I believe, in the country. The amount of procedures, pathology seen and time put into our curriculum may be overwhelming at times, but is definitely beneficial when comparing myself to residents in other programs and is noticed immediately by other programs and facilities.

Why I chose ISMC: INTEGRIS Southwest has one of the best emergency medicine programs in the country. I felt as though each class of residents was more prepared and knowledgeable than their peers in other programs. I want to be a great emergency physician and I knew the best educational experience would be at INTEGRIS Southwest Emergency Medicine Residency.

LundbergMichael Lundberg, D.O.

Medical School: Lake Erie College of Osteopathic Medicine
Undergrad: Brigham Young University
Activities/Hobbies: Reading, cooking, hiking, travel
Home State: Utah
Why I chose ISMC: During my rotation as a medical student at ISMC, I was very impressed with the knowledge and skill set of the upper level residents. They practiced emergency medicine at a more mature level than their short time in the specialty would have predicted. They attributed their success to excellent and rigorous training at ISMC. I wanted to be that caliber of resident and physician.

RobertsSteven Roberts, D.O.

Medical School: OSU-COM
Undergrad: University of Central Oklahoma
Activities/Hobbies: Spending time with my family, hunting and fishing, anything I can do outside, reading, and cooking.
Home State: Oklahoma
Why I chose ISMC: I worked as an emergency room tech for several years prior to medical school. Where I worked, there are lots of graduates of this program. When I looked at their performance next to the performance of the graduates of other programs I decided that this was a better program. Coincidentally, it is very near to the home I already owned and my entire family which is incredibly convenient. After rotating through the ED twice, as well as spending several months in the hospital on various other medical rotations and getting to work with the attending physicians and residents I knew that it was a good fit.

TrinaJames Trina, D.O.

Medical School: Oklahoma State University College of Osteopathic Medicine
Undergrad: University of Oklahoma
Activities/Hobbies: Basketball, sneaker enthusiast, photography, tech/gadgets, foodie
Home State: Oklahoma
Why I chose ISMC: The sense of family and feeling that you go to work in the busiest ER in the state but get to do it with great support. Rotating as a student, I got to see other residents jokingly harass the attendings and vice versa. There was always a jovial spirit with the ER crew that intrigued me. We view each other as integral parts of a unified team that are tasked with providing care to a huge volume of indigent patients and we lean on each other in times of stress in order to get through each shift. Someone is always there to have your back and you accordingly reciprocate. You are always challenged to do/see more and it makes you increasingly comfortable with caring for the sickest patients. ISWMC provides an ideal environment to learn, grow and reach your potential as a physician.

Undergrad: Southwestern Oklahoma State University, Weatherford, OK
Activities/Hobbies: Family, Church, Huntin/Fishin, Land, Cattle and Guitar
Home State: Oklahoma
Why I chose ISMC: Multiple reasons - High volume, we are the only residents in the hospital, strong foundation and free food! It is also very procedure friendly -- it may be the only residency in the nation where you could graduate with 200 plus intubations and central lines.

ZinnDavid Zinn, D.O.

Medical School: OSU-COM
Undergrad: OSU
Activities/Hobbies: Golf, hiking, biking, SCUBA diving
Home State: Oklahoma
Why I chose ISMC: Great staff and physicians here. There was no doubt when I rotated here that I would receive excellent ER training and this program would give me all the tools to be the most successful ER physician I could be. Attendings are approachable and easy to work with and take the time to teach. The staff is efficient and knowledgeable as well. Truly one of the best programs in the country.

Why I chose ISMC: I chose ISMC because the residents were the most knowledgeable and efficient residents I had encountered. Being an unopposed residency provides us with the opportunity to perform all indicated procedures, not only in the ER but throughout the hospital. I found the patient volume as well as the pathology encountered to be matched by few other programs.

Activities/Hobbies: Mountain biking, wakeboarding, hunting, hiking.
Home State: Oklahoma
Why I chose ISMC: During my medical school rotations I was able to work in several emergency rooms with many different doctors. The doctors that impressed me with their knowledge of medicine, willingness to teach and patient care all had one thing in common. They were trained at ISMC. I wanted to be as talented as those physicians and knew I would need to train where they trained. ISMC offers a diverse population of patients with diverse pathology, and outstanding attendings and upper level residents that provide excellent training.

WeldonWeldon Tanner, D.O.

Medical School: Oklahoma State University College of Osteopathic Medicine
Undergrad: Oklahoma State University
Activities/Hobbies: Hiking, hunting, rock climbing, skiing, kayaking
Home State: Oklahoma
Why I chose ISMC: I chose ISMC because they are the busiest ER in the state and have a reputation for producing high quality ER physicians who are able to function in any ER setting. They see a large number of high acuity cases that are managed quickly and accurately by all levels of residents. They do numerous procedures, getting most of their required procedures for graduation in their first year of residency. They allow 2nd year residents to moonlight giving them a chance to gain experience on their own which allows them to advance their knowledge and learn to manage patients at a higher level. The attending physicians push the residents, broadening their knowledge and teaching residents how to manage complicated patients as well as a busy emergency room.

Why I chose ISMC: I chose ISMC because I feel like it is a good place to learn, and a place to grow into a well-rounded, genuinely good physician. There is a good support system here, and everyone makes the learning process fun and challenging. I know I will be prepared to work anywhere when I graduate.
