Students

INTEGRIS Southwest Medical Center emergency medicine clerkship offers a unique fast paced learning environment with high acuity and high patient volume. While on shift, medical students have the opportunity to interact with residents of various levels of training as well as directly with teaching faculty. As the only training program based at INTEGRIS Southwest Medical Center, rotators work alongside emergency medicine residents and all EM boarded faculty. Staffing ratios provide for numerous interactions with residents as well as a variety of faculty. During clerkship rotations, students have opportunities to first assist several procedures and often perform supervised procedures themselves.

“I have learned more in my month at your program than any other rotation in medical school.”- MSIV

Medical students participate in resident didactic sessions held on Mondays and Wednesdays as well as specially focused medical student didactic sessions. These sessions are lead by upper level residents and faculty preceding each resident didactic session. In addition to these sessions, patient encounters are used to stimulate mini-lectures and learning opportunities while on shift.

“Your residents are the best I have worked with, they were all friendly, helpful and knowledgeable.”- MSIV

Our facility serves a culturally and socioeconomically diverse population in south Oklahoma City and is also a referral center for hospitals across the state. With high volume and high patient acuity, INTEGRIS Southwest Medical Center provides a unique learning experience representative of the practice setting that the majority of emergency physicians spend their career.

Medical students are welcome throughout the year with the exception of July. The months of August through December are reserved for MS4 students. Contact Cindi Ruegge in the GME office for further details.
