Considerations for Orthopedic Treatment of the Pregnant and Postpartum Patient

Course Description:

Providing rehabilitation practitioners with the knowledge to safety screen and treat patients in the pregnant and postpartum population with orthopedic issues.

Course Outcomes:

At the conclusion of this course, participants will be able to:
1. Understanding physiologic changes during pregnancy (Dr. Kulcyzcki)
2. Understanding pelvic floor disorders related to childbirth (Dr. Kulcyzcki)
3. Safely screening for red flags during pregnancy and when to refer back to OB (Dr. Kelley)
4. Understanding treatment strategies and manual techniques that are safe during pregnancy (Dr. Kelley)
5. Understanding proper exercise prescription during pregnancy and postpartum (Dr. Kelley)

Speakers Bios:

Lauren Kelly graduated in 2012 from Southwestern Oklahoma State University with a Bachelor's of Science in Athletic Training. She went on to obtain her Doctorate degree in Physical Therapy from Oklahoma University Health Science Center in 2015. Lauren furthered her education in pelvic health beginning in 2017 with level 1 training through the APTA and added her level 2 training in 2018. She has also furthered her training in treating women's health by completing 2 courses in 2018 focused on treating the pregnant and postpartum patient population. Lauren has a passion for treating the whole women, especially mothers secondary to her own journey as a mother and returning to the fitness world postpartum. She enjoys maintaining an active lifestyle and helping others do so as well. Lauren loves spending time with her husband and two wonderful daughters, Reagan, age 3, and Rylie, age 7 months. Carissa Kulczycki graduated from Southwestern Oklahoma State University with a Bachelors degree in Biologic Sciences. She attended medical school at Oklahoma State University College of Osteopathic Medicine. She completed her OBGYN residency at Saint Anthony in Oklahoma City. Carissa lives in Oklahoma City with her husband Scott, and daughter, Ayla.
