On behalf of the INTEGRIS Jim Thorpe Clinical Development Department we would like to thank you  for your willingness to support student clinical education.  Because of you and your support, future generations of physical therapists, occupational therapists, speech-language pathologists, recreational therapists, and musical therapists have access to high quality learning opportunities that will no doubt impact them as they move into their professional roles.  

Supervising students can both be rewarding and taxing.  In an effort to make this process as easy and streamlined as possible we created this page as a central resource page that you can use and share with your colleagues.  Please feel free to suggest ideas to be included on this page by emailing us at therapystudents@integrisok.com.

MyClinicalExchange - This is the website we use for coordinating and placing students in their rotations.  We also use the site for student onboarding.

INTEGRIS Therapy Students website - This is our webpage with some information on how to log into MyClinicalExchange (MCE) to view your student information.

There are two HealthStream courses that we would recommend for you, especially if you are a first time CI.  You can access these courses by clicking on Annual Education > Catalog > and then type in the course names (listed below).

Supervision Do's and Don'ts:

Do:

  1. Do encourage and reward your student for asking questions.
  2. Set clear expectations from the beginning.
  3. Do contact your student prior to their start date to answer any questions they may have.
  4. Do hold your student accountable to dress code and professional behavior.
  5. Do reach out to the fieldwork educator, your supervisor or manager to assist with any issues.
    1. If your student is having issues it is better to reach out early.
  6. Do have some weekly objectives to follow with your student.
    1. These will be different depending on your setting and the student’s level in their program.
  7. Do expect your student to make mistakes. It is your job to ensure they are in a safe environment where they can make mistakes and learn from them in a controlled environment.
  8. Do provide direct supervision to your student, while fostering their skills and confidence.

Don’ts:

  1. Do not expect your student to be a therapist.
    1. This is a learning experience not a test.
  2. Do not let your student document with your login.
    1. If students are here for more than 4 weeks, they get their own network and EPIC log in.
  3. Do not take what you know for granted.
    1. You know way more than you realize. Things that seem common knowledge to you are not common knowledge to a student.
