Director of Lung Transplantation and Advanced Pulmonary Disease Management

Alan Betensley, M.D., is the medical director of lung transplantation and advanced pulmonary disease management at the Nazih Zuhdi Transplant Institute.

Dr. Betensley was a senior staff physician at the Henry Ford Hospital Transplant Institute and an Assistant Professor of Medicine at Wayne State University prior to arriving at NZTI. He completed his Pulmonary/Critical Care fellowship at the University of North Carolina and his Internal Medicine Residency program in New Orleans at Tulane University. His honors and awards include the American Respiratory Care Foundation, and the IKARIA literary award for best manuscript by a first time author.

Dr. Betensley graduated with honors from Duke University in 1992 with a degree in Biomedical Engineering and currently holds professional memberships with the American Association for Respiratory Care, American College of Chest Physicians, American Thoracic Society, American Medical Association, and International Society of Heart and Lung Transplant. He is board certified in internal medicine, critical care medicine, and pulmonary medicine.

His wife, Molly, is the director of broadcasting for the Detroit Tigers baseball team and their dog, Boris, is a certified therapy dog.
