Nitin Abrol, M.D.

Nitin Abrol, M.D., is a transplant surgeon at Nazih Zuhdi Transplant Institute at INTEGRIS Health Baptist Medical Center.

Abrol's surgical expertise includes living donor kidney transplantation, deceased donor kidney transplantation, pancreas transplantation, and liver transplantation. He is a certified transplant surgeon by the American Society of Transplant Surgeons.

He graduated from a urology residency program at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences in New Delhi. He developed special interest in kidney transplantation during residency training and decided to pursue career in transplantation. He completed a 2-year kidney transplantation surgery fellowship at the Royal Adelaide Hospital in Australia. Subsequently, he joined an American Society of Transplant Surgeons accredited fellowship program at Mayo Clinic, Rochester, Minnesota where he received training in kidney, liver, and pancreas transplantation surgery. He also has a keen interest in transplant immunology.

Abrol did research at Mayo Clinic immunology lab understanding the mechanisms of alloimmunity and functions of mesenchymal stromal cells. His research has focused on transplant alloimmunity and outcomes of kidney transplant patients after transplant surgery. He has presented his research at various meetings. He also received an award from the Society of Critical Care Medicine for his research on the preoperative factors predicting requirement of high acuity care after kidney transplantation surgery.
