If You Work the Night Shift

Dr. Jonathan Schwartz addresses the growing prominence of nontraditional work schedules and the issues that arise from them.

Shift Work Disorder

Affects people who work outside of normal daytime hours.

Shift work disorder is a sleep disorder that affects people who frequently rotate shifts or work at night. Because the schedules of people who work at night go against the body’s natural circadian rhythm, it causes difficulty adjusting to the different sleep and wake schedules. Shift work disorder consists of a constant or recurrent pattern of sleep interruption that results in insomnia or excessive sleepiness. To learn more, call 405-636-7700.
