Murali Krishna Family Eliminate the Stigma” Award as a way to annually honor persons or organizations that have shown an outstanding contribution to the community through their efforts to eliminate the stigma of mental illness.

The first R. Murali Krishna, M.D. Award was given in 2011 to a fourth-year medical student at the OU College of Medicine. The Health Alliance for the Uninsured and OU School of Medicine initiated the annual award as a way of recognizing Dr. Krishna for his years of dedication and service to HAU and its mission.

With the assistance of his friend, Kelly Dyer Fry, editor for The Oklahoman, Dr. Krishna has written a book, VIBRANT: To Heal and Be Whole from India to Oklahoma City.

Through the INTEGRIS Foundation, proceeds from the book go to fund the Dr. R. Murali Krishna Eliminate the Stigma of Mental Illness Award previously described.

The book was one of only five books recently recognized and reviewed by World Literature Today for “taking on stigma and pressing for resilience.”
