Child Life Internship

We are excited to communicate with you about the INTEGRIS Children’s Child Life Internship. Our comprehensive child life internship, accredited by the Association of Child Life Professionals, is offered two times a year, in the Spring and Fall semesters. The Child Life Internship is a 600-hour (15 week) experience that is an integral requirement for students planning on a career as a Certified Child Life Specialist. More Information

The internship is a 600-hour, 15 week, full time experience.

Interns are expected to be available during standard business hours.

  • Certain rotations may require an intern to work some evenings.

    We currently accept only one intern in the Fall beginning in August.

    Interns must have a college or university affiliation.

    The internship schedule is as follows:

  • Week 1: General orientation to the hospital and the child life department
  • Weeks 2-7: Unit Rotation 1
  • Week 8: Interdisciplinary Team Rotation
  • Weeks 9-14: Unit Rotation 2
  • Week 15: Wrap Up

Units available for child life rotations: General Medicine, Pediatric Intensive Care, Outpatient Surgery

There may be observation opportunities available in Neonatal Intensive Care, Emergency Department, Endoscopy, Radiology, and Adult Services.

Internship rotations will be decided based upon the availability of the child life specialists, as well as the interest areas of the intern.

Housing is not provided for students. However, there are apartment complexes near the hospital campus.

Must be a college senior or graduate with a strong background in child development of a closely related field. Bachelor’s or master’s level academic preparations are accepted.

Enrollment in a college/university during the internship.

Must complete the Association of Child Life Professionals course review through the Eligibility Assessment and have documented verification of a minimum of 10 approved courses, including a course taught by a CCLS.

Major GPA of 3.0 or above on a 4.0 grading system from your college or university

Must have at least 100 hours of student or work experience with well infants, children, adolescents, and/or families, individually or in group settings (such as camps, day cares, developmental centers, etc.)

Must have completed a verifiable 100-hour minimum Child Life Practicum experience under the direct supervision of a Certified Child Life Specialist in a pediatric health care setting. *additional hours in other setting should be included on your application

Requirements must be met by the application deadline for the candidate to be considered. *The only exception is a practicum in progress, however, the practicum requirements must be successfully completed to be considered for the internship

  • INTEGRIS Children’s at Baptist Medical Center offers a child life internship once a year in the Fall. We follow the internship offer and acceptance guidelines recommended by the Association of Child Life Professionals.
