Psychological Services

The fundamental goal of the psychology program at Jim Thorpe Rehabilitation is to improve function and quality of life for our patients. The psychology program offers assessment, consultation, and intervention services across the lifespan for individuals with medically related disorders, their families, and the professionals working with them. These services focus on developing strategies to improve related aspects of physical, personal, psychosocial, cognitive, and behavioral factors as well as offering guidance with establishing reasonable expectations now and in the future.

Referrals to the psychology program are received from a variety of sources, both within and outside Jim Thorpe Rehabilitation. Our most common referrals are for individuals with a variety of medical diagnoses including, but not limited to:

  • Brain injuries
  • Spinal cord injuries
  • Neurological diseases/disorders
  • Brain tumors and other cancer diagnoses
  • Epilepsy
  • Stroke and vascular conditions
  • Genetic and metabolic disorders
  • Amputations

Neuropsychology is the study of how brain functions and systems affect thinking, learning, and behavior.

Neuropsychology services through Jim Thorpe Rehabilitation offer specialized assessment of neurologically based cognitive and behavior issues. The evaluation is focused on providing detailed recommendations tailored to the patient’s specific circumstances and needs. All of this information is discussed with patients and families at a feedback meeting and is then summarized in a written report that can be used by the patient, family, and other professionals (e.g., educators, therapists) working with the patient.
