Potential recipients of heart transplants at the INTEGRIS Nazih Zuhdi Transplant Institute must meet the following heart transplant criteria to join the heart transplant list. Criteria for a heart transplant include:
EF (ejection fraction) < 25%
Inability to walk 1 block without getting shortness of breath
1 or more hospital admission in the last 6 months for heart failure exacerbation
Increasing amounts of diuretics
Frequent defibrillator shocks
Intolerant to heart failure medicine
