  • A fire is reported every 10 minutes.

  • Nearly 3,000 fires occur in businesses.

  • A residential fire is reported every 64 minutes.

  • One person dies in a fire every 6.4 days.

  • Two million Americans are burned severely enough to need medical attention.

  • 130,000 burn patients require hospitalization – 20,000 die.

  • Less than 180 burn units are available to care for these patients. The Paul Silverstein Burn Center at INTEGRIS Baptist Medical Center is the one of the largest and most comprehensive burn centers in the country, and one of only two adult burn units in Oklahoma.

  • Burns are the third leading cause of accidental death in the U.S.

  • Burns are the leading cause of accidental death in children ages 1-15.

  • 80 percent of fire and burn injuries are caused by the victims own careless actions.

  • 75 percent of burn injuries occur in the home.
