Over the Moon Empanadas for Children

OKLAHOMA CITY (Feb. 4, 2016) – The INTEGRIS Hispanic Initiative and Variety Health Center have joined forces to educate the community on prevention of childhood obesity. Join INTEGRIS community dietitian Pam Patty for our first cooking class of the new year. This heart-healthy nutrition and cooking demonstration class is designed for children ages 7 to 12. They and their families will learn how to make not only fun and tasty but nutritious meals and snacks.

Learn how to make those great little moon-shaped pastries, stuffed with any number of fillings like meat, seafood, cheese, beans, vegetables and even fruit. Empanadas are fun to make and delicious to eat, either as part of a sit down meal or as a grab and go snack. Class participants will be shown how to make the empanadas with whole grain flour, and the fillings will focus on fiber as well as flavor in honor of Heart Health Month in February.

The class will be held in both English and Spanish from 3:30 to 5 p.m. on Monday, Feb. 22, at the Variety Health Center, Lafayette Clinic, 500 SW 44th St., Oklahoma City, OK 73109. For more information or to register, call the INTEGRIS HealthLine at 951-2277, and press #2 for Spanish.
