Teach For America Oklahoma City Recognizes Stanley Hupfeld Teacher Angela Martinez as Alumni Teacher of the Year

Angela MartinezJust as many students begin to round the corner towards the end of the school year, Teach For America corps members also joined in recognition of an ending. Hosted at the Oklahoma City Zoo, Teach for America Oklahoma City held their 8th Annual Alumni Induction, which brought together corps members, alumni, staff, and community members for ceremony and awards recognizing the best and brightest in education, and celebrating 2017 corps members’ transition from their two year commitment into alumnihood.

The awards ceremony featured the best of current and past TFA corps members. For alumni awards, Teacher of the Year went to Angela Martinez (OKC, 2013 corps) kindergarten teacher at Stanley Hupfeld Academy.

The Alumni Teacher of the Year Award goes to a K-12 classroom teacher who demonstrates leadership in the classroom and their school community by greatly impacting the education of their students; inspiring learning inside and outside of the classroom; building deep relationships with students, families, and school communities; serving as an example to peers; and demonstrating Teach for America’s core values. Angela’s colleagues praise her deep investment in the school community and her strong and lasting commitment to public education in Oklahoma City. During her tenure at Arthur Elementary school she promoted the integration of technology within the classroom to advance students’ achievement and co-led the school’s robotic team. Currently, alongside her duties as a teacher at Stanley Hupfeld Academy, she is an Oklahoma A+ arts integration fellow. Angela continues to refine her craft and is said to be by her peers, “a wonderful teammate who brings immense knowledge and positivity to our school community.”
The event proceeded with the official induction of 38 new Teach for America Oklahoma City alumni, each receiving a plaque in recognition of their service. After their induction, corps members then gathered in a circle, and alumni in attendance created an encompassing circle, handing each an Oklahoma artifact; a helpful tool for them to remember not just the impact they’ve had on their students, but on their communities.
